Introduction

AEM BootCamp is a initiative, supported by 8 BIT PLATOON to build a community of highly skilled AEM developers.

At the moment AEM is a very popular product, indeed the most popular Content Management solution worldwide. As a result, there is a big differential between the supply and demand for skills working on the AEM platform.

AEM BootCamp hopes to contribute in solving this problem.

We want to attack this problem from two angles:

1. Help beginners get started

There is a ton of information on AEM available on the interwebs ranging from blogs to official documentation, to YouTube videos and much more. So do we really need another source of information about AEM?

The answer is Yes and No.
  • "No", because you can probably find everything you need to know about AEM online - especially if you happen to work for an Adobe partner like 8 BIT PLATOON.
  • "Yes", because the amount of information supplied is a bit overwhelming and a newcomer can easily get lost before he/she even gets started.

AEM BootCamp intends to provide a "landing page" of sorts to different topics within the AEM world. We will be collecting and curating links that address specific topics.

Building on our military theme, each of these topics will be called a Sortie. The blog page will then be accompanied by real world group development activities (Coordinated on our Slack Page) where all participants learn together and share their experiences.

Our initial list of Sorties will be strongly influenced by the tutorials offered on Adobe's AEM Communities page, but we'll see where we go.

2. Guide "old-hands" towards the newer best practices for using AEM

Although there is a big focus on guiding beginners, the AEM BootCamp was born after I wrote the AEM Architect exam and realised that there is still much to learn about this platform. So even if you already have a lot of experience with AEM, we will be exploring some advanced topics in depth, to drive an all-round understanding of the entire platform.

To answer some questions I've received via email and expect to get over the next while:

Is this BootCamp open to anyone?
  • Yup, anyone can join. It is an open community who are learning and growing together. 8 BIT PLATOON is a key player with the AEM market, and their support is appreciated, but this is an independent and open initiative.
How do I join?
  • The Welcome page of this blog (http://aembootcamp.blogspot.com/2017/06/welcome.html) provides the process for joining. check it out and follow the instructions provided.
What does participation really mean?
  • Participation is 100% online
  • AEM BootCamp is like a book club for AEM developers. Each week we will be looking at a specific aspect of AEM.
  • Depending on the specific topic we will find relevant tutorials and articles. BootCamp members will then work through the tutorials, ask questions and discuss the topic.
How much time will this take?
  • We''re hoping to keep total coding time to less than 2 hours per week.
  • Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your current coding skill and experience.
Can't I just do this on my own?
  • Indeed you can. We simply offer a group that you can do it with.
  • Learning with like-minded people is easier than doing it alone, and besides, we might have a virtual beer together.
So that's about it for now, see you on the other side
